A Long-Missing Senior Tournament Finds Its Way Back After 14 Years

The Australian Senior Open will return to the PGA Legends Tour schedule for the first time in more than a decade, under a three-year agreement with City Golf Club in Toowoomba from October 2–4, 2026.
Before this, City Golf Club hosted the Queensland PGA Championship 11 times between 2009 and 2020 and continues to host PGA Legends Tour Pro-Am events.
Then, the PGA of Australia tournament leadership recognized the venue’s role in the event’s return.
With General Manager of Tournaments and Global Tour Relationships Nick Dastey thanking City Golf Club for committing to host the championship for the next three years, with Legends Tour members set to compete there later in 2026.

“City Golf Club has been a popular Tour stop in the past, and we are sure our Legends Tour members will enjoy teeing it up in Toowoomba again later this year.”
The event will be played as a 54-hole, 120-player stroke play tournament with a minimum purse of $160,000. Meanwhile, weekend coverage is scheduled to air on Fox Sports and Kayo.
The 2026 return aligns with City Golf Club’s 100th anniversary and follows a recent redevelopment of the venue. The event’s return places it back alongside national titles such as the Men’s and Women’s Australian Opens.
Meanwhile, the list of past winners includes Peter Senior, Wayne Grady, Peter Fowler, Mike Harwood, Noel Ratcliffe, and Gary Wolstenholme.

Australian Senior Open: Last Played in 2012, Before Scheduled 2026 Return
The last Australian Senior Open was played in 2012. Since then, the event has been on a 14-year break.
In 2012, Peter Senior won the Australian Open and became the oldest winner of the national open at age 53.
Meanwhile, the final Australian Senior Open before the break was held from November to December 2012.
During that event, Peter Fowler won by six shots with a score of 207 (-9) at Royal Perth Golf Club in Western Australia.
The tournament was played as a 54-hole stroke play event, which is also the planned format for its return.
