When Harold Varner III was announced as the newest member of a LIV Golf team once led by Brooks Koepka, the move seemed sudden. But a closer look at his 2025 season shows that this had been building for some time.

With Koepka leaving LIV Golf, the team needed firepower, and Varner brings just that. Before joining Smash GC, Varner competed with 4Aces GC, the team captained by Dustin Johnson. He spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons with 4Aces after previously playing for RangeGoats GC in 2023.

He earned 60.31 points and delivered several strong finishes throughout the 2025 season. His highlights included a T7 finish at LIV Golf Adelaide and T5 finishes at LIV Golf Dallas and LIV Golf Chicago.

While he didn’t secure a win, Varner consistently earned points in most events. He recorded four top-10 finishes.

Entering the offseason as a free agent, Varner was open to exploring new opportunities, and Smash GC, formerly led by Koepka, looked like the right fit.

What Smash GC Looks Like With Varner in 2026?

“Smash GC is a team that competes with confidence and edge,...I’m excited to join a group that believes in what it’s building and is focused on winning. I’m ready to get to work and contribute meaningfully in 2026.” Varner told LIVGolf.com.

Gooch, one of LIV Golf’s most consistent performers, reunites with Varner after the two played together at RangeGoats GC during the 2023 season, arguably the most successful LIV campaign for both players.

For 2026, Smash GC’s roster will feature Gooch, Varner, Jason Kokrak, and Graeme McDowell, forming a lineup built to compete week after week.
