All the speculation surrounding his return ended when five-time major champion Brooks Koepka addressed it himself.
Speaking after being reinstated to the PGA Tour and ahead of the Farmers Insurance Open, Koepka revealed the primary reason behind his decision.
“Just my family,” he said.
Koepka went on to explain the personal circumstances behind that statement. “A lot’s gone on over the past five, six months with my family. That played a big role in coming back… The ability to have my family out there all the time.”
One major reason behind the decision was the devastating miscarriage his wife, Jena Sims, experienced in late 2025.
Brooks Koepka acknowledged that the situation made him reassess where he needed to be, ultimately deciding he should remain closer to home to support his family.
According to Koepka, circumstances shifted around September 2025, prompting discussions about what was best for their family.
Brooks Koepka made his first regular PGA Tour start in January 2026 since 2022, following his stint with LIV Golf.
His comeback was made possible through the Tour’s newly introduced Returning Member Program, which allowed him to rejoin the circuit.
His father, Bob Koepka, echoed that sentiment.

Bob Koepka spoke about how fatherhood has influenced his son’s outlook. “When you become a dad, your perspective changes.”
Bob Koepka also emphasized wanting to spend more time with his son, Crew. Koepka said he hopes his son can see him compete more often and that he values being present before he begins school.
The family made the most of it immediately, with Jena and Crew traveling to Torrey Pines to be with Koepka for the Farmers Insurance Open.
That week marked Brooks Koepka’s first regular start on the PGA Tour since 2022, following his departure to LIV Golf. Competing from January 29 to February 1, he finished tied for 56th with a total score of 284 (4-under).
Koepka opened with a 1-over 73 on the South Course. He followed it with a 4-under 68 on the North Course to make the cut at 3-under. In the third round, he posted another 1-over 73, describing the day as inconsistent.
He closed with a 2-under 70 in the final round. Despite playing the weekend, he ranked last in the field in putting statistics.
He then entered the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale but did not make the cut, finishing at 2-over 144.
Looking ahead, he is set to compete at the Cognizant Classic beginning February 26, marking his first appearance at his hometown event in three years.
