Eugenio Chacarra left LIV Golf two years ago. He's won three times on the DP World Tour since. And now, with a PGA Tour card almost certain for 2027, the 26-year-old Spaniard has set his next target, competing with the best players in the world.
Eugenio Chacarra spoke to Flushing It Golf after winning the Italian Open at Circolo Golf Torino on June 28, his second consecutive DP World Tour title following the KLM Open three weeks earlier. The five-shot victory over Matt Wallace pushed him to third in the Race to Dubai standings, behind only Patrick Reed and Rory McIlroy. The top 10 at the end of the season earn PGA Tour cards for 2027.
"I want to keep playing against the best players in the world, and be able to prove to the world and to myself and my team that I'm like them," Chacarra told Flushing It Golf.
He named Scheffler and McIlroy directly as the standard he wants to reach.
"And the Ryder Cup next year. That won’t be easy, but I can add some new goals for my team so we all get hungry and we all want it. I’ve got a long way to go, and I can always get better. To be able to compete with Scottie, Rory, all the big guys, you need to be 100% in every aspect of your game," Chacarra said.
"I'm playing good, but I have a long way to go. And I'm hungry to keep working."
Chacarra's journey to this point was not easy. He left Oklahoma State in 2022 as the world's No. 2-ranked amateur and spent the next three seasons playing on LIV Golf before moving on to the next stage of his career.
After winning during LIV Golf's first season, Chacarra became disappointed as the league did not provide the major championship exemptions and world ranking points that many players had expected.
After his contract with Sergio Garcia's Fireballs GC was not renewed at the end of the 2024 season, he also took a short mental health break in February. Despite those setbacks, he continued working toward his goal of returning to the top level of professional golf.
Chacarra told Today's Golfers that he decided to leave LIV Golf after realizing how much winning on the PGA Tour or DP World Tour can change a player's career. He explained that seeing those opportunities made him feel he needed to leave LIV as soon as possible.
Chacarra departed after the 2024 LIV season and went straight to work. His first DP World Tour title came at the Hero Indian Open in March 2025.
Eugenio Chacarra Has New Goals On Bigger Stage
Two more wins in 2026, the KLM Open and the Italian Open, have him in pole position for his Tour card.
The Italian Open win also earned him a debut spot at The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale through the Open Qualifying Series exemption.
With the PGA Tour card nearly locked up, Chacarra is already thinking about what comes next.
"Obviously in golf, there's always new goals when you keep playing good," he told Flushing It Golf in the same interview. "I went up to 58 in the world, so obviously now one of the main goals is to finish the year in the top 50 in the world, so I can qualify for all the four majors next year. And the Ryder Cup next year."
He opens the Genesis Scottish Open this week alongside Wyndham Clark and Viktor Hovland. The Open Championship follows the week after at Royal Birkdale, his first appearance in golf's oldest major.
What do you think? Can Chacarra crack the world's top 50 and earn a Ryder Cup spot? Let us know in the comments.
