After Quitting LIV Golf, Pro Opens Up: "They Told Me a Lot of Things That Never Really Happened"

The Spaniard, who joined LIV in 2022 and won during the league’s inaugural season, left the league at the end of the 2024 season, Eugenio Chacarra.
Recently departed from LIV Golf, Brooks Koepka walked out on his contract just before Christmas, and LIV chief executive Scott O’Neil described his exit as an “amicable and mutual agreement.”
However, Eugenio Chacarra didn’t share the same experience. Speaking to Today’s Golfer on January 5, Eugenio Chacarra reminisced on the "broken promises" that motivated his departure.
"They told me a lot of things that never really happened, and I don’t know if it bothered me or not, but I lost motivation because of it," Chacarra told TG.

Eugenio Chacarra joined the LIV Golf League as an amateur and turned professional in June 2022. He spent three seasons in the league, mainly as a member of Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs GC.
However, Chacarra was not retained by the team after his three-year contract expired in 2024, and he later stated that his concerns related to the rewards being primarily financial.
Chacarra earned full DP World Tour status after winning the Hero Indian Open on March 30, 2025. Before that victory, he competed in events mainly through sponsor invitations following the non-renewal of his LIV Golf contract at the end of the 2024 season
After competing for almost a full season on the DP World Tour, Chacarra now looks back on his time in LIV Golf and outlines both positives and limitations from the experience.
“I learned a lot, I played with great players, but I thought my time there was done. I wanted to experience something else. I wanted to play more tournaments,” said Chacarra, but that's where the problem was.
Eugenio Chacarra's big LIV Golf disappointment
In Eugenio Chacarra’s view, success in LIV did not lead to further competitive opportunities. The absence of opportunities beyond LIV Golf’s 13-event schedule did not align with the expectations.
“I wanted to play in majors and be in contention for the Ryder Cup. I love competing, but not just for 13 weeks a year. I want to play 30 or 25-plus events, so that’s one of the things I want to move forward towards.”
Even though LIV golfers are not barred from majors or the Ryder Cup, their pathway is more difficult because LIV events do not award OWGR or Ryder Cup qualification points. This, Chacarra said, became evident even after winning in the league.
“Once you win out there, like I did, your life doesn’t change that much. You don’t get into majors, you don’t get a chance to be in the Ryder Cup, you don’t get a chance to play a lot of events. That affected me as a player, and I lost motivation.”
He explained that, as a result, he and his team decided to pursue opportunities on the DP World Tour, with the intention of working toward a place on the PGA Tour over time.
