Rory McIlroy is one of the biggest stars on the PGA Tour. Despite all the fame, the Irishman has always found time for fans, and yesterday was no different.
McIlroy was at Muirfield Village Golf Club yesterday, preparing for the signature event, the Memorial Tournament. Amid the crowd awaiting his arrival, he spotted a young girl holding a signboard for him.
“How are you, Rory? You good?” said McIlroy to the young fan in the 14-second clip shared on the PGA Tour X account.
The girl’s sign read: "My name is Rory too." The six-time major winner came up with a marker and autographed young Rory’s sign. The 37-year-old also signed autographs for other fans surrounding the young girl.
“Thanks, Rory,” said the young girl at the end of the X Clip.
With a beaming smile, the girl showed off her McIlroy-signed sheet. It was another instance of a wholesome interaction between McIlroy and his fans.
At the Memorial Tournament, McIlroy is scheduled to tee off on Thursday at 3.25 PM, alongside World No.16 Justin Thomas.
Recently, he claimed that the Jack Nicklaus signature event is on his wish list.
McIlroy Would Love To Win The Memorial Tournament
McIlroy will be making his 14th appearance at the Memorial Tournament’s 50th anniversary. The Irishman has notched up five top-10 finishes at Muirfield Village Golf Club, with his best performance coming in 2016 when he tied for fourth place.
“I would say here [Memorial Tournament] and Tiger’s event at Riviera, they’re the two that I would love to win. I’ve been lucky enough to win at Bay Hill, but not while Arnold [Palmer] was alive,” said McIlroy, as per Today's Golfer.
These days, the World No. 2 is notably being selective with his tournaments. McIlroy has already skipped numerous PGA Tour Signature Events, opting for Majors and Ryder Cups instead.
“So I always thought it would be cool to win here and take that little walk up the hill off the 18th green and shake Jack’s hand. Jack and I share a nice history. We’ve known each other now for nearly 20 years. He’s been nothing but great to me and my family. This is certainly one I would love to get done,” he added.
At this stage of his career, McIlroy is prioritizing events that will cement his legacy in the sport. The Memorial Tournament is one of them.
