Alex Fitzpatrick just earned a two-year PGA Tour exemption at the Zurich Classic. However, he only caddied for his brother’s 2013 U.S. Amateur win for something far more casual.

Days after Alex and Matt Fitzpatrick became the first brothers in two decades to win a PGA Tour team event at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Alex revealed he did it for a new phone ahead of the Cadillac Championship. 

“I only caddied for him [Matt Fitzpatrick] at the U.S. Amateur because my dad promised me a new phone,” the 27-year-old revealed during a press conference at Trump National Doral on Tuesday.

“That was the only reason why I caddied for him, because it was too expensive to buy a caddie for the week, so I got dragged into that one. And then he won, and then I got a new phone, so it was a win/win all around,” added Alex Fitzpatrick.

Fast forward to 2026, and Matt Fitzpatrick's brother has left the Zurich Classic with more than a title, securing PGA Tour status through 2028.

In fact, their win also earned him entry into the remaining Signature Events this season and a place in the PGA Championship. Matt, meanwhile, has won three of his last four starts and now sits first in the FedExCup standings.

Like Alex Fitzpatrick, Minjee Lee caddied for Min Woo Lee at Augusta

The Fitzpatricks are not the only siblings with a caddie story. At Min Woo Lee’s first Masters week in 2022, Minjee Lee took the bag for her younger brother in the Par 3 Contest at Augusta.

By then, Min Woo had already spent the week drawing one of the biggest practice-round crowds, playing ahead of Tiger Woods and handling what he called “complete chaos.”

Wearing the white caddie overalls, Minjee joined him for the Wednesday tradition, hit one close herself, and later said it was “so much fun” to be part of his first trip down Magnolia Lane.
