All About the ‘Water Wings’ Viktor Hovland Used in His Pebble Beach Tune-Up

Viktor Hovland has caught the fans' attention at the ongoing AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament.
An account named 'qualfiedcaddie' shared a video on Instagram where Hovland was seen wearing water wings to improve his swings, something the World No. 2, Nelly Korda, also used.
Analysis Behind the Use of Water Wings
Viktor Hovland wore two inflatable floaties on both hands during a practice session at Pebble Beach. Ultimately, the goal is to maintain the correct swing plane and ensure a consistent swing radius.
This unique drill helps prevent his right arm from over-bending during the backswing, which can lead to a loss of width and control. That's because when the water wing is slightly inflated on the right arm, he receives immediate feedback if his arm folds too much.
Meanwhile, if Viktor Hovland feels the floatie pressing against his torso during the backswing, it indicates his right arm is collapsing excessively.
Finally, if there’s no contact, it means the arm is too far outside. Since Hovland has been struggling with his swings, the precise feedback could be exactly what he needs.
How's the Water Wings Drill working out for Viktor Hovland?
Viktor Hovland is currently competing in the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and it's safe to say it hasn't gone the way he would've wanted.
He started the first round on the wrong note, hitting a double boogey in the second hole. Hovland finished at 70, scoring 6 birdies over the course.
In the next couple of rounds, the 26-year-old scored a 69 and 71. Golfers teed off for the final round on February 15 at 10:55 AM ET. Hovland remains in the middle of the pack after the break at T51.
