Anna Nordqvist gives honest assessment of Charley Hull’s Solheim Cup form

European team captain Anna Nordqvist has praised world No. 8 Charley Hull despite her struggles at the Solheim Cup. In fact, the veteran has picked her to lead the team in Sunday’s singles.
Hull, playing her ninth Solheim Cup, was tipped to lead the European side at Bernardus. However, she struggled to secure points on Friday and Saturday. Nordqvist still kept high hopes for her star player.
“Charley’s been great, playing great for the last two days. She really hasn’t holed any putts,” Nordqvist said. “... and I mean, she’s right there where she needs to be. But it’s just that little bit of momentum that we all know is so important in the matches.”

Despite pairing Europe's two highest-ranked players, Hull and Lottie Woad, in all four team sessions, the duo managed only half a point.
They became the first two in Solheim Cup history to not earn a full point despite playing all four team sessions in a single edition.
However, captain Nordqvist trusted Hull to turn her form around on Sunday.
“So I have full confidence in her going out tomorrow," Nordqvist added, as reported by HITC's Jordan Harris. "And I don’t think she really has anything to prove because we know all of what a great player she is.”
Heading into Sunday's 12 singles, Team Europe and Team USA were tied at 8-8. Hull was set to face another Solheim Cup veteran, Meghan Khang.
Nordqvist’s gamble pays off
Anna Nordqvist picked Charley Hull to set the stage in Sunday singles' opening match. The three-time LPGA winner did not let her captain down.
“It’s good,” Hull said, per The Independent's Luke Baker.“It had been a frustrating week. Me and Lottie had played pretty well but we just couldn’t hole a putt and played against some tough opponents, but it felt good to get on the board.”
Hull got her first full point at Bernardus in a 3&2 win over Khang. She gave her team much-needed momentum.
Woad edged out Auston Kim 2&1, and veteran Carlota Ciganda sealed the title against Jennifer Kupcho 4&2.
Nordqvist’s gamble paid off as Team Europe won 15-13 to clinch the Solheim Cup on home soil.
