Eight phone calls in one night left Team Europe captain Anna Nordqvist mentally exhausted, and it showed on the course. She has been juggling captaincy duties with competitive play during the qualification campaign for the Solheim Cup.

It was a rollercoaster ride at the AIG Women’s Open for Nordqvist. The Swede was over-equipped with her Solheim Cup responsibilities.

"I think it's hard to put it in words how hard it's been," Nordqvist told Sky Sports. "I felt like as soon as I came off the course, it was just so much stuff about Solheim Cup, which has been hard because I really wanted to go and enjoy this week.”

Nordqvist was aiming to put her major season to an end with a solid performance. A T7 finish at the Amundi Evian Championship showcased her good run of form.

In fact, the European captain led by example as she was the best-performing European at the Evian Resort last month. At Royal Lytham & St. Annes, it was time to build her team. 

"I think I was completely crushed yesterday [third round] out there," Nordqvist admitted, as per Sky Sports' Ali Stafford. "I made eight phone calls and spoke to some players that are making it and some that didn't, on Friday night, which I knew was going to be hard.”

Nordqvist carded a 77 on Moving Day. That was followed by a final-round 68. It was exhausting for the 39-year-old.

"I felt really off the first day but managed to battle through. I played really well the second day and then yesterday, I didn't really play that bad, but mentally I was just exhausted after everything on Friday,” Nordqvist added.

Nordqvist ended up finishing tied for 29th at four over for the tournament. She is confident about her performance heading into the biennial tournament.

Anna Nordqvist reveals she won’t pick herself

Despite the encouraging run of form late in the season, Anna Nordqvist has decided against playing as a player-captain at next month’s Solheim Cup.

"I care a lot about others and sometimes I forget about myself. I'm playing good. I'm not going to pick myself, but I feel like my golf is good enough to be up there with the girls,” said Nordqvist, as per Sky Sports.

“I'm excited to move on from there and focus on the girls that's going to be on the team." 

England’s Lottie Woad and Charley Hull, Sweden’s Maja Stark and Linn Grant, France’s Celine Boutier, German pro Esther Henseleit, Spaniard Carlota Ciganda and Danish golfer Nanna Koerstz Madsen have automatically qualified for the Solheim Cup.

Nordqvist will announce her four captain's picks on Monday.
