Anthony Kim won his first tournament in 16 years this Saturday at LIV Golf Adelaide, and he ensured that he used the occasion to deliver an honest message related to her daughter.
After Kim got his hands on the $4 million prize money, his wife Emily and daughter Bella ran onto the green to celebrate with him. The 40-year-old might have shed a tear on his wife's shoulder, which showed the world what truly matters in life.
During the press conference following his LIV Golf Adelaide victory, Kim iterated what he wanted his daughter to understand. "For her to be able to run on the green and see her dad isn't a loser was one of the most special moments of my life," he said. "I just want her to know that no matter how bad your day is, if you keep fighting, you never lose."
The 4Aces GC member also told a story that showed his journey back from rock bottom. After disappearing from golf for 12 years following an Achilles tendon injury in 2010, Kim struggled with drugs and alcohol and spent long periods in rehab.
Kim said that before Bella was born, he felt no purpose in life. However, in the end, it all worked out, as Kim not only qualified for LIV Golf again last month, but also won his first tournament since the 2010 Shell Houston Open.
Anthony Kim Has a Three-Word Message for Anyone Struggling
The comeback story between Kim and professional golf just got more inspiring, thanks to his honest message after the win.
While appearing emotional on the 18th green, he was asked what advice he'd give to people battling their own issues. His answer is unlikely to be forgotten by anyone watching.
"Don't f*****g quit."
Interestingly, he also revealed his goal during rehab was to help people if he ever got out. Golf wasn't even in the picture during that time. Kim said he can only reach the people he wants to reach by winning and having a platform.
"I want to inspire people. My goal is to inspire the people who are struggling because I feel like the world needs more of that today." Kim said.
For Kim, this win proves he's a completely different person than he was during his struggles. With his family, sobriety, and faith as his foundation, he's ready to keep inspiring others.
