Anthony Kim's win didn’t just come from one good Sunday, but a lot had been building up before that and having the right person besides him.

At LIV Golf Adelaide on February 15th, he shot 9-under 63 in the final round and finished ahead of Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau by three shots. It was a big moment, but it wasn’t sudden. His game had been improving for some time.

Grant Bennett joined him as a caddie in late 2024 after a simple phone call, and things started to change from there.

"Hey, I'm looking for a caddie. Let's do a three-week trial and see how it goes," Kim told him.

Their first week together at LIV Golf Hong Kong in 2025 didn’t look good on the scorecard, and even Kim wasn’t playing well. But even then, the connection was clear. After the opening round, Kim messaged Bennett and told him the job was his if he wanted it.

"We were thinking about golf the same way," Bennett said. "We get along so well off the golf course, too. That just makes things super easy."

That alignment is what Anthony Kim had been looking for, and definitely not someone to challenge his thinking, someone to sharpen it.

"I could tell that he was going to work hard regardless of if I played good or not," Kim said. "Not everyone has a good attitude every day they come to the course, and that's all I needed to see."

On the greens, their system is simple. Both read the putt independently. Bennett checks in. They almost always land on the same line. Kim owns the final call, and Bennett knows exactly where his role ends.

When Kim made the turn on that final Sunday, nothing between them changed. Same wind check, same yardage, and same conversation. The process held while the leaderboard flipped around them.

"Obviously, we had a great Sunday, but for us it was same old, same old," Bennett said. "The same process."

Kim birdied five of his last seven holes and won by three. After the final putt dropped, both men marked the moment with matching tattoos, a boxing kangaroo representing Australia. Bennett's came with one difference: a mustache, just like him.

"He grinds harder than anyone," Bennett said of Kim, the 4Aces GC star who turns 41 in June.

Sixteen years is a long time to wait for a win, but it turns out that finding the right caddie was worth it.
