Anthony Kim’s 63 Completes Stunning Comeback as Rahm, Bryson Fade at LIV Adelaide

Anthony Kim clinching the title at LIV Golf Adelaide on 15 February marked his return to winning after nearly 12 years away from professional golf.

In the final round of LIV Golf Adelaide, Anthony Kim shot a bogey-free 9-under-par 63 to reach 23-under for the tournament. He began the day five shots behind the leaders.

However, he closed the gap with steady play and moved ahead of Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau to secure the win.

Jon Rahm finished in second place, while Bryson DeChambeau ended in a tie for third in the individual standings.

Kim said he felt fortunate to be alive and competing again in professional golf: "It has been overwhelming. But I'm never not going to fight for my family. God gave me a talent. I was able to produce some good golf today."

"I knew it was coming. Nobody else has to believe in me but me, and for anybody that's struggling, you can get through anything," he told reporters.

And it was quite the comeback because after withdrawing from the Wells Fargo Championship in May 2012, he stepped away from competition and remained out of the public eye for nearly 12 years.

During his time away, Kim faced several personal and physical challenges, including addiction and health issues.

Anthony Kim underwent spinal fusion and hand surgeries, and during that time, he went from World No. 6 and representing the United States in the Ryder Cup to someone rarely seen on the greens.

He also did not play golf in any regular capacity for much of that period. He only began practicing roughly two months before his 2024 return to professional golf.

Naturally, Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm acknowledged Kim’s return despite falling short in the final standings.

“It’s an inspiring story that I think honestly should have a lot more media attention than it does,” said nine-time PGA winner Bryson DeChambeau.

Rahm also shared the same sentiment as DeChambeau, saying, “What he’s doing is nothing short of remarkable.”

Rahm and DeChambeau began the final round tied for the lead at 19-under.

Rahm finished at 20-under with a final-round score of 71 and earned $2,250,000. Meanwhile, DeChambeau closed at 17-under after posting a 74 and received $1,100,000.
