Augusta National has a name it doesn't want you searching, but all of it is sitting right there in public records.

As Golf.com put it in the YouTube video, "There's a little secret Augusta National doesn't want you to know, but they've been leaving hints in public records."

That hint is the name Burkeman. For 25 years, the club has used a shell company called Burkeman Residential Properties to buy land around its course.

The address listed on those filings traces straight back to 2604 Washington Road, Augusta National's own front gate.

Golf.com spent weeks mapping the purchases. "Through weeks of research, mapmaking, and public filings. We have tracked more than $280 million spent by Augusta National in the last 25 years, stealthily through LLCs. Just to control its surroundings a little bit more."

During the research, what they found was staggering.

Since Burkeman Residential Properties was formed on July 3, 2001, the club has quietly bought 190 parcels of land and become one of the largest property owners in Georgia.

Although the spending crossed $280 million, with appreciation factored in, the 2025 appraisal of those holdings sits at around $500 million.

The purchases go well beyond parking. The club dropped $26 million on the National Hills shopping centre across Washington Road. Another $16 million secured the site for its Global Broadcast Home.

The club doesn’t pressure people to sell. Instead, it waits. It often holds back until a property becomes part of an estate or trust, then makes its move. Then returning with offers running two to three times the market value.

One veteran member told Golf.com exactly what the club thinks of outside estimates on its spending.

"Whatever you want to guess about the money spent, it's going to be wrong," he said.

Former Augusta National chairman Billy Payne confirmed the broad strokes back in 2016. Telling reporters the club plans 20 years out with every phase mapped in advance.

Augusta National has Big Future Plans

Actually, the land is only the beginning. According to Golf Digest, the club has bigger plans.

These include housing for all Masters players, a redesigned fan village, and possibly a second golf course for the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.

There are also talks about building a special highway exit from I-20 that would take fans straight into the club’s parking. The idea is to keep fans away from the busy ticket and parking areas on Washington Road.

Chairman Fred Ridley confirmed in 2024 that a three-level player facility will open in 2026. This will come after an underground parking area that opened in 2025.

As one member told Golf.com, whether it’s land, money, or influence in the city, "The answer is always more."
