Scottie Scheffler clearly seemed to struggle at The Masters Tournament. The World No. 1 was not at his best in Round Two, with two of his shots ending up at the bottom of Rae’s Creek. He took a risk, but it did not pay off.
Scheffler felt his 2-over 74 did not reflect how he played but admitted he failed to convert key chances, especially on the 13th. After two rounds, he was even par and 12 shots behind the leader going into the weekend.
“But that was one where it was, to that pin specifically, that's a shot that I could get in there close, so I felt like it was worth the risk of going for it. It was unfortunate too where the ball crossed,” Scheffler said.

Scheffler’s tee shot on the par-5 13th found the fairway. He then went for the green in two with a 3-iron, but Amen Corner made its presence known as his shot went into the water, eventually leading to a bogey.
“I just didn't draw it enough. It's a hard shot for me, because where I hit my drive, we caught that tee ball into the wind again. As far as I can get it out there, there's still some trees in my way, so I kind of have to start on that bridge. But off the slope, I felt like I could pretty easily draw it,” Scheffler said.
He explained that he tried to use the slope but did not execute the shot as intended. Even after the miss, Scheffler remained confident he could pull it off and admitted it was the only shot he “would rather be able to hit again.”
Scheffler’s Approach Going Into The Weekend
“I would like to hole a few more putts. I felt like it was rolling nice today, but balls just weren't dropping. Maybe my reads were a little bit off. I felt like I was starting online. It could have been speed on a couple of putts, but overall, I definitely felt like I played better than my score,” Scheffler said.
He also said the green speeds were inconsistent and the dry conditions made play more difficult.
“I mean, you can't force anything around this place. I definitely struck it well enough to have a really, really nice round today, so I'll go get a bit of practice, get some rest, and get ready for tomorrow,” Scheffler stated.
