4Aces GC ended its long winless drought with a team victory at LIV Golf Hong Kong on Sunday, with captain Dustin Johnson fighting through illness to contribute to the win.
The win came after a gap of nearly 974 days, as the team finished with a combined score of 58 under par. It also marked their first title since the London event in June 2023, with Johnson carding a 65 on Sunday while Anthony Kim and Thomas Pieters each posted rounds of 66.
Speaking after the win during a press conference on Sunday, the 41-year-old reflected on the illness he dealt with during the tournament and how he managed to push through it for the team.
“I barely made it through the round on Thursday, but I was definitely very proud of the way I just hung in there and battled as best as I could for the team.”
The 24-time PGA Tour winner explained that he had been feeling fine earlier in the week but began feeling unwell when he arrived at the range before Thursday’s round.
Despite struggling through the opening day, he focused on getting through the round without dropping too many shots while his teammates were playing well.
Johnson added that he felt slightly better on Friday and continued to push through the tournament before feeling improved over the weekend, which allowed him to contribute to the team’s win.
By the end of the week, that effort also showed on the leaderboard.
Dustin Johnson Closes With 65 as 4Aces GC End Long Title Drought at LIV Golf Hong Kong
At the HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong event held from March 5–8, the 2020 Masters Tournament winner Dustin Johnson finished tied for 24th in the individual standings at 10-under par, his final-round effort played a role in the team’s six-shot win over Smash GC.
Johnson opened the tournament with rounds of 68, 69, and 68 before closing with a 65 on Sunday, bringing his total to 270. That final round was the lowest score among the 4Aces on the last day and helped the team post a combined 16-under score in the final round.
The victory came after changes to the roster during the offseason, with Thomas Detry and Anthony Kim joining Johnson and Thomas Pieters.
The result ended the team’s losing stretch that dated back to the London event in June 2023, with 4Aces finishing the week at 58-under par.
