Patrick Reed may be a LIV Golf star, but he hasn't closed the door on the PGA Tour. 

2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed was asked on January 25 about the possibility of returning to the PGA Tour. Although Reed isn’t eligible for the Returning Member Program.

Speaking with Evin Priest of Golf Digest, Reed said, “I mean, of course; if it were up to me, I’d play everywhere.”

The program’s criteria require players to have won a major championship or The Players Championship between 2022 and 2025, and Reed doesn’t meet that mark.

He added that since he is already competing on three tours, adding another would make sense, and he said he enjoyed his time on the PGA Tour.

Reed added, “Let’s be honest, out there, it’s the best tour in the world. Look at what they’ve done in golf, I could see myself playing there at some point again. But right now, you just never know; everything’s so fluid.”

Reed made his LIV debut at the league’s second event in Portland, Oregon, held from June 30 to July 2, 2022. Reed then became part of 4Aces GC, a team that went on to win the inaugural season’s team championship.

Reed has nine career wins on the PGA Tour, including two World Golf Championships, and reached a career-high world ranking of No. 6 in June 2020.

Because of that history, his comments about the PGA Tour weren’t unexpected, especially since he has said even after leaving that he wants to compete worldwide and could return to the PGA Tour in the future.

Reed said a return isn’t something he can decide on right now because the program only applies to winners from 2022 onward.

He added that he would consider it if the eligibility window extended back to 2018, but for now, Reed said it’s difficult to know what comes next since the situation remains uncertain.

After Reed’s comments, the focus shifts to the win that still defines his PGA Tour resume.

Patrick Reed’s 2018 Masters at Augusta National

Patrick Reed won the 2018 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club, earning his first and only major championship with a 15-under-par total of 273.

He finished one stroke ahead of Rickie Fowler after a final round that stayed close until the end.

Reed faced pressure throughout Sunday as Jordan Spieth moved up the leaderboard with an 8-under 64, while Fowler closed with a birdie on the final hole to pull within one. 

He steadied himself after an even-par front nine and then made key birdies on the back nine to sign for a 1-under 71 and secure the title.

Reed week was built on putting, as he led the field in putts per green in regulation and putts per round.

After the tournament, Reed received the green jacket from Bubba Watson, who presented it in place of Sergio García, the defending champion, who missed the cut.
