Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee has an unpopular pick for this year’s PGA Tour Player of the Year. Despite having just one win this season, he believes World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is still miles ahead of the competition.

One win would not normally be enough to lead the Player of the Year race. However, Chamblee believes Scheffler’s remarkable consistency has separated him from the rest of the field.

“Scheffler has just one win this year, and some might argue that the POY year race is wide open, but he’s actually miles ahead. We are all biased by win totals, sometimes at the expense of consistency,” Chamblee wrote in his X post.

Scheffler’s consistency is certainly on another level. He is yet to finish outside the top 25 this season and has recorded nine top-five finishes.

On top of that, he is on a streak of 78 consecutive cuts and hasn't finished outside the top 25 since August 2024.

The four runner-up finishes demonstrate his consistency. However, as Chamblee mentioned in his X post, The Open Championship could be the ultimate decider of the award.

“For the past two years Scottie has been consistently brillant, this year he has been brilliantly consistent. If Rory or Fitz wins The Open the story changes but right now Scheffler, despite not being dominant in wins, dominates the POY,” Chamblee added.

Scheffler won six times last year, including two majors. As a result, he became just the second player to win the award four or more consecutive times, after Tiger Woods.

The season-ending major remains up for grabs, and Scheffler could turn his season around with a win at Royal Birkdale.

However, if the Claret Jug goes to World No. 2 Rory McIlroy or Matt Fitzpatrick, who has won three times this season, the POTY award may not belong to the World No. 1, according to Chamblee.

Chamblee went on to draw parallels between Scheffler and Nelly Korda.

Nelly Korda headed into the 2025 season on the back of an extremely successful 2024 season. However, like Scheffler, she failed to live up to expectations.

“Scheffler’s year thus far reminds me a little of Korda’s in 2025. Nelly played at a very high level and statistically was only negligibly off from 2024 when she won 7 times, and yet did not have a win,” wrote Chamblee in the same post.

Korda recorded nine top-10 finishes in 2025 but was unable to cross the line. She ended the season with three runner-up finishes.

Interestingly, Korda has been able to put the winless slump behind her, as she has already secured four wins this season, including two majors.

Scheffler might just need one win to return to his dominant form once again.
