Brandel Chamblee Reveals Why LIV Golf Will Continue to Fail: "It Eliminates Everything..."

Golf Channel analyst and commentator Brandel Chamblee has been a firm critic of LIV Golf and believes LIV Golf's entire model is fundamentally broken.
During a recent appearance on the Trey Wingo Golf podcast, Chamblee shared his views, saying that LIV Golf has failed. While that alone may raise a few eyebrows, the analyst went on to explain why he thought so.
"The reason LIV fails, has failed, will fail, continue to fail is not because it challenges tradition. That's not it at all. It's because it eliminates everything that makes competition meaningful," Brandel Chamblee told Trey Wingo.
The three things that Brandel thinks are absent from LIV Golf are "earned status, sustained pressure, and moral choice." And the analyst believes that the third one is the most important.

"And when I say moral choice, I'm not talking about right versus wrong. I'm talking about the moral choice that underpins success in sport. Success is about delayed gratification," he added.
However, LIV Golf operates with a small roster of 48 players (57 for 2026) divided into 12 teams, where players sign guaranteed, multi-year contracts and compete in events with no cut, meaning every player completes all 54 holes (72 for 2026) and receives a payout.
On the PGA Tour, tournament fields are larger, and a player’s status and eligibility are based on results, rankings, and qualification routes.
Chamblee applied this idea of accountability to Brooks Koepka’s possible return to the PGA Tour.

Brandel Chamblee was blunt about Koepka's having a tough time if he decides to return to the PGA in the future.
"He was a marquee legitimizer of this state-funded reputational rehabilitation," Chamblee said while discussing Koepka's run with LIV Golf.
So, the analyst believes that if and when Brooks Koepka does return, and if he decides to choose the PGA Tour, it won't be easy.
"He can't come back frictionless. He can't come back easy," explained Chamblee. While Chamblee believes that the golfer doesn't need "punitive" suspension, he'll still have to prove himself.
The analyst believes that Koepka will either serve a suspension or may have to re-qualify for the Tour through lesser events, "until he again establishes himself into the upper echelons of the PGA Tour."
