Brooks Koepka withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge to prioritize rest. The move follows his top-15 finish at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

NUCLR Golf posted the news on X after the PGA Tour confirmed his withdrawal late Sunday night.

No official reason was given. Koepka had played four of the last five weeks. The Charles Schwab Challenge would have made it five events in six weeks.

His week at TPC Craig Ranch was solid. Koepka shot rounds of 63, 69, 66, and 68 to finish at 18-under par. The T14 result moved him six spots to 63rd in the FedEx Cup standings.

Since coming back to the PGA Tour through the Returning Membership program after four years on LIV Golf, Brooks Koepka has played 10 tournaments this season and made the cut in seven of them. He has finished inside the top 25 five times, including a tie for ninth at the Cognizant Classic.

The withdrawal reduces the Charles Schwab Challenge field to 132 players. Denny McCarthy and David Ford also pulled out on Sunday, and Jimmy Stanger and Brice Garnett took their spots in the field.

The field was already without Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth. Spieth is missing the Colonial tournament for the first time in his career. Wyndham Clark, who won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday with a final-round 60, is playing this week. Defending champion Ben Griffin is also in the field.

Brooks Koepka is expected to return at the RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto from June 11-14. With the U.S. Open taking place the week after, his decision to rest this week makes sense.

Brooks Koepka Focused on U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills

The U.S. Open returns to Shinnecock Hills on June 15. Shinnecock Hills is where Koepka won his second U.S. Open title in 2018, the last time the championship was held there.

He is a five-time major champion overall. His three PGA Championship titles in 2018, 2019, and 2023 sit alongside those two U.S. Open wins.

Koepka is exempt into the U.S. Open. He is not eligible for next week's Memorial Tournament Signature Event, as he sits outside both the Aon Swing 5 and Aon Next 10 positions.

The Charles Schwab Challenge has a total prize purse of $9.9 million. The winner will earn $1.78 million and 500 FedEx Cup points. Brooks Koepka finished second at Colonial in 2018 and tied for 32nd in 2020.

The Canadian Open and the U.S. Open will be played in back-to-back weeks in June, and Koepka is expected to play in both tournaments.
