"Incredible Relief": Bryson DeChambeau Opens Up After LIV Golf Singapore Victory

via Usta

Bryson DeChambeau hit his tee shot into the water on the first playoff hole on the 18th, putting the Aramco LIV Golf Singapore title at risk.

The mistake left DeChambeau trying to limit the damage during the sudden-death playoff while Richard T. Lee still had a chance to extend the contest.

"Incredible relief," DeChambeau said in his post-round interview with Jerry Foltz.

DeChambeau won the Aramco LIV Golf Singapore title on March 15 at Sentosa Golf Club. It was his fourth LIV Golf win and his first 72-hole victory since the 2024 U.S. Open. It wasn’t a perfect finish, but it was enough.

"I haven't won in four rounds since the U.S. Open 2024," DeChambeau said. He added that winning on such a demanding course, especially with the changing conditions, meant a lot to him and his team.

The win wasn’t a smooth one, as DeChambeau admitted. He saw Lee make a birdie on the 18th in regulation to take the lead, then matched it to force a playoff.

DeChambeau said his caddie, Jibo, offered a simple reminder on the playoff hole. "Bryson, just go make par. That's all you can do," he recalled. "And we went and did that."

But the playoff was nearly decided by one shot that went completely wrong.

The Shot That Nearly Cost Him Everything

The playoff tee shot was a story in itself. DeChambeau described seeing water sitting on the golf ball just before his swing. Heavy rain had already forced two stoppages during the final round.

"Right before I took the swing back, I saw the golf ball, and there was so much water on the ball," he said. "I tried to throw it out to the right, and I heeled it, and it started just dead left."

His third shot from the rough set up the up-and-down that kept him alive. Wet conditions, thick Bermuda rough, and a wedge game he openly struggled with all week made the par all the more valuable.

"To get it done was quite memorable," he said simply.

DeChambeau now has four LIV Golf titles, and this one came after a playoff hole played in soaking conditions.
