Crushers GC lifted the team title at LIV Golf Korea, and the win was highly powered by their captain, Bryson DeChambeau. Interestingly, after his victory, the captain revealed an unorthodox method that turned things around for him.
DeChambeau co-led the event after the first round, thanks to a 5-under 65. However, his consecutive rounds of 68 and especially 71 made him fall off the charts. Hoping to turn the tables, the two-time major champion resorted to Google’s AI Assistant for advice.
“I was slamming the club in the ground, trying to figure out what to do. I was frustrated. Been trying everything in my body. I didn't actually figure it out on the range. I went back and started talking to Gemini and trying to figure out just what it could be to passively make the club turn over,” said DeChambeau.
“Hands just felt like they were moving forward like this and I couldn't get the club to turn over. Even if I tried to stop it here, it still wouldn't turn over.” he added.
Nicknamed “The Scientist”, DeChambeau has often resorted to science and technology to amplify his playing style. The Gemini way could be the start of a new chapter.
In the final round, DeChambeau deployed Gemini’s instructions and shot a 5-under 65 again, scoring six birdies. However, he was left one stroke off the sudden-death playoff score of 12-under.
“So I left kind of frustrated and learned later that night that I just needed to relax my grip pressure and let the thing just fold over naturally,” said DeChambeau.
The Gemini-assisted practice session at 8 PM on Saturday helped DeChambeau to fight back at the Asiad Country Club. The solo third finish will bring a sigh of relief to the 32-year-old, who’s coming off a missed cut at the PGA Championship.
Finishing with a score of 11-under, DeChambeau led his team’s title defense.
DeChambeau Speaks About Crushers GC’s Chemistry
Crushers GC successfully defended their title at the Asiad Country Club in Busan. The team ran it back at LIV Korea as they shot a combined score of 23 under.
“Just grateful, super grateful that I've got amazing guys, an amazing team,” said DeChambeau. “We all click in different ways, but we all work to make our team the best out here.”
With their second win of the season, the Crushers take their regular-season wins tally to 10. As a result, they now hold the record for the most wins, one over Legion XIII and 4Aces GC.
The team has reached this feat in 50 regular-season starts since DeChambeau, Charles Howell III, Anirban Lahiri, and Paul Casey combined to form the core group back in 2022.
As for DeChambeau, he’ll now head to LIV Golf Andalucia and hope to build some momentum for the U.S. Open, which he has already lifted twice.
