The title defense has started strongly for Bryson DeChambeau at LIV Korea. This is LIV Golf’s second visit to Korea, and the event’s defending champion shared his feelings about the crowd.

The inaugural event last year was held at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Incheon. This time around, it is being hosted at the Asiad Country Club in Busan, and the atmosphere has been electric.

Fans came in large numbers on the first day of the event. With uncertainty surrounding the league’s future, Korean golf fans did not want to miss out on what could be the last LIV event in their nation.

“Yeah, the support was fantastic out there. We had a great crowd for Thursday. Really impressed, and can't wait to see what Korea brings out this weekend.” DeChambeau said during the press conference.

Crushers GC’s Captain DeChambeau and member Charles Howell III showcased their dominance as they did at the inaugural event. Both players ended up tied at 5-under 65 for the lead and were joined by HyFlyers GC’s Scott Vincent at the top.

“Yeah, it's a lot of fun. Koreans love their golf. They think it's quite special when you bring world-class players like this to Korea, where they don't see it very often," he stated. "We give them a different type of show. We hit it a lot farther.”

DeChambeau performed at a "world-class" level as he birdied six of his first 10 holes, with AC/DC, Bad Bunny, and The Notorious B.I.G playing in the background. However, two bogeys at the 13th and 15th slowed him down.

The World No. 32 lauded Spain’s David Puig for his powerful tee shots. He also noted other players for hitting their shots at 185-195 miles per hour. Fans were highly thrilled watching the home team, the Korean GC, who entered the tournament with a renewed lineup.

Korean GC Looks To Turn Things Around

The Korean team has been disappointing in recent events. However, with the addition of Doyeob Mun to their lineup, the team showcased renewed energy and consistency.

Mun shot a 2-under 68 in his debut LIV round, which left him tied for 11th along with teammate Younghan Song.

Captain Byeong Hun An scored an even-par 70 and Minkyu Kim a 71, helping the team secure its best first-round position this season, a T5.

“The fact that I played my first tournament of LIV Golf here in my home ground was really, truly an honor,” Mun said, as reported by LIV Golf. “Looking at the fans, I really felt less nervous, more comfortable. I really want to thank them for coming out today.”

Mun also promised the fans that he would display his ‘A’ game in the following rounds. Korean GC will certainly aim to deliver on Mun's word and win their first LIV title.
