Bryson DeChambeau’s penalty situation disrupted the entire Open schedule. After making the cut, fellow pro Marco Penge was left frustrated with the delay.

As the R&A figured out DeChambeau’s ruling, they delayed the publication of the tee times for Moving Day. Penge wasn’t having any of it.

"It was a bit of a joke really. I'm staying at home this week, which is an hour away, and not getting a tee time until 11:00pm is not great, really, when the tournament probably finished at ... we could have at least got a heads up for what time the first tee time was going to be. Obviously there was a lot of commotion, so that delayed things," Penge told reporters on Saturday.

Penge seemed certain that the delay was caused by the penalty drama. After the end of round two, DeChambeau and the R&A officials went on a long discussion in the thick rough.

The 15-minute interaction led to the conclusion that DeChambeau will be assessed a two-stroke penalty under Rule 8-1. 

The LIV man had angrily told reporters that he wouldn’t feature if he were penalized. That left the R&A to put a hold on the official tee times, as per Penge.

"I presume until they were told whether he was going to play, then we wouldn't get the tee time until then," Penge added, as per HITC. "It's one of them things. Hopefully we'll get told our tee time a little earlier tonight." 

Ultimately, Penge got what he wished for, despite the delay. His tee time on Moving Day was 5:45 a.m ET.

The golfing community was left divided by the R&A’s decision to assess a two-stroke penalty to Bryson DeChambeau. Penge believed everyone has their own perspective.

"I mean, probably shouldn't give my opinion on it. I mean, you can obviously see on the TV. Everyone has got their own opinion of the scenario,” Penge said, as reported by HITC. “Yeah, that one was ... I'll leave that to everyone else. If I was in that position, I'd just be very careful where I'm standing and how I get into the ball and make sure I don't improve my lie.”

The R&A concluded that DeChambeau intentionally or unintentionally improved the lie by pressing the grass behind the ball. Despite continuous pleas from the LIV golfer, the R&A went ahead with the penalty.

Penge went on to card a 1-under-par 69 on Saturday and is currently tied for 43rd ahead of the final round.
