After winning LIV Golf Singapore in a playoff, Bryson DeChambeau wasn’t celebrating the miss that gave him the title. Instead, he wished the match had lasted one more hole.
His opponent, Richard T. Lee, had just missed a 2-foot par putt that would have extended the playoff, handing DeChambeau the victory in a video shared by Flushing It Golf on X.
"Absolutely hated it for Richard," DeChambeau said. "He's been playing some unbelievable golf. He's beat me in a few of the rounds I've played with him, and he's a stellar player. I wanted to go another hole with him."
DeChambeau shot a 5-under 66 in the final round to finish at 14-under 274. That left him tied with Lee after 72 holes. In the sudden-death playoff, DeChambeau hit his tee shot into the water but still made par. Lee then missed the short putt at the hole.
While DeChambeau claimed the trophy, Lee’s remarkable run as a wildcard nearly stole the spotlight.
The Wildcard Who Made DeChambeau Wait
Lee’s runner-up finish was the best ever by a LIV Golf wildcard. He birdied four of his final six holes to post a 66 and reach 14-under, forcing a playoff with DeChambeau.
“It was a short putt and I wanted to just hit it hard, and I hit it a little too hard,” Lee said. “I think the adrenaline was pumping a little bit.”
DeChambeau made sure to recognize Lee’s effort. “The league should be really proud to have him as a wildcard,” he said.
The win meant a lot for the Crushers GC captain. His last 72-hole victory came at the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. It had been a tough week with rain delays, thick rough, and wedge struggles.
"This was huge for me," he said. "Especially with it being wet conditions, thick blades, and struggling with my wedges. To get it done was quite memorable."
With the Masters three weeks away, DeChambeau heads to Augusta National with his first win in nine months. Lee leaves Singapore with a strong performance that nearly won him the title.
Who impressed more in Singapore, is it DeChambeau with his clutch par save in the playoff, or Lee with his amazing wildcard run? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
