Bubba Watson’s Fear Put His Caddie in a Situation He Still Feels Embarrassed About

A caddie's loyalty can be tested in unexpected ways. For Ted Scott, that test came from Bubba Watson’s fear of crowds, leading to a tense on-course moment Scott says still embarrasses him years later.

It happened during the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook, where Watson’s discomfort around crowds shaped a small but tense situation. Trying to ease things, Scott suggested placing the bag away from spectators. But a marshal stood in the way on a par-three hole, holding a sign that indicated ball direction.

At first, it seemed like a minor inconvenience. Then it escalated: "Martin Kaymer’s caddie asked him to move. Then I asked him to move, and he finally said, ‘I was told to stand right here, and I’m not moving.’"

In that moment, frustration took over. Scott grabbed the sign and tossed it aside, telling the marshal to step away.

Looking back, Scott has not tried to justify it. Instead, he has owned it: "That was a very embarrassing moment on the tour, in my frustration. So… sorry. Sorry again, sir.”

And in many ways, that moment reflects the kind of journey they shared over the years.

From 2006 to 2021, the two worked side by side, collecting 12 PGA Tour wins and two Masters titles.

Their chapter may have ended, but for Scott, it marked the beginning of something even bigger.

Ted Scott and Scottie Scheffler Build Golf’s Most Dominant Player-Caddie Run

Since joining Scheffler in late 2021, the pair has amassed PGA TOUR victories, including two Masters titles (2022, 2024), the 2025 PGA Championship, and an Olympic gold medal in 2024.

With Scottie Scheffler, Scott has played a central role in one of the most consistent runs in modern golf, a partnership that was also explored in Season 3 of Full Swing.

Beyond recent success, Scott’s resume stretches across eras. He has now caddied for four Masters winners, placing him second on the all-time list for caddies with the most victories at Augusta.
