Carlos Ortiz Highlights Role in Growing Latin American Golf at LIV Golf Mexico

Carlos Ortiz returned home to Mexico City to lead the next generation of Latin American golfers.
With a total of 10 victories across multiple tours, Ortiz currently stands at rank 162. When asked about the impact he has had in his home country, Ortiz replied:
“It happened to me when I was a kid at tournaments. Seeing Lorena inspired me a lot to believe that I could do it. And I hope that's what we're doing. At the end of the day, it's part of what we do, giving back a little. And I think the way we give back is by inspiring new generations.”

Ortiz created history at the 2025 U.S. Open, finishing T4—the best-ever result by a Mexican golfer in a major and the first top-10 by one since 1972, breaking two records at Oakmont.
He also credited Lorena Ochoa as his inspiration, having grown up watching her win 27 LPGA Tour titles in seven seasons and hold World No. 1 for 158 consecutive weeks before retiring in 2010.
“I think hosting events of this size in any sport is incredibly important. I believe they help the sport grow overall. Speaking of golf in general, I think that us coming to play and being here with the kids, so they can see us, helps a lot,” Ortiz added.
Ortiz became the first Mexican in 42 years to win on the PGA Tour at the 2020 Houston Open and later added the 2024 LIV Golf Houston title, along with multiple wins on the Asian and Korn Ferry Tours, while entering LIV Golf Mexico in strong form with two top-10 finishes this season in Hong Kong and South Africa.
Ortiz’s team, Torque GC, has been among the most consistent.
Ortiz And Torque GC
Comprising an all Latin American roster, Torque GC is one of the most formidable teams in LIV Golf. The team has consistently finished near the top and was a strong contender in 2025.
Captained by Chilean star Joaquin Niemann, the roster features Colombia’s Sebastián Muñoz, Mexico’s Abraham Ancer, and Ortiz. Niemann won five events in 2025 and finished second in the season-long individual standings.
Last year, Torque GC claimed both the individual and team titles at LIV Golf Indianapolis, with Sebastián Muñoz winning the individual title, while they finished second at LIV Golf Greenbrier in 2023.
The team is a local favorite at LIV Golf Mexico and will look to add another trophy this week.
