LPGA star Charley Hull has a new partner at the Grant Thornton Invitational, and it's none other than Michael Brennan.

Just like other teams in the event, Hull and Thornton took up a team-bonding activity, writing down their team name and more. However, it was Brennan's one word to describe Hull that surprised her.

When asked to describe each other, Hull said, “I ain't really met you, but you seem pretty cool.” Brennan's response was "Intense."

Charley Hull couldn't believe it. “Really? You reckon I'm intense? I'm the most laid-back person in the world... I couldn’t give a f*** about anything.”

In any case, their bonding activity seems to have helped their performance at the tournament. They posted a 17-under-par 55, breaking the scoring record at the Grant Thornton Invitational. They were tied with Lexi Thompson and Wyndham Clark, who posted the same scores.

Being an unexpected addition to the event, Brennan was surprised by his performance. "It's quite funny because, actually, I was changing my swing last week, and I come on Tuesday and I could not even keep the ball on the planet. So I was actually pretty nervous today. Actually, it worked out pretty well."

But why did Charley Hull get a new partner?

LPGA star Charley Hull was first tied to Daniel Berger, who unexpectedly withdrew on Monday evening. The most unexpected thing is that Berger didn’t even give any explanation or reason for withdrawal.

The tournament brings together 16 PGA and LPGA duos at Tiburón Golf Course in Naples, Florida, running Friday through Sunday. At the Grant Thornton Invitational, players will face a scramble in Round 1. Followed by an alternate shot in Round 2 and then a modified four-ball finish.

Lydia Ko and Jason Day (2023 inaugural winners) and Patty Tavatanakit with Jake Knapp (2024 title winner) are also a part of this event.

Brooke Henderson and Corey Conners are also showing up again, while sisters Nelly and Jessica Korda pair with Denny McCarthy and Bud Cauley, respectively.
