What was supposed to be a funny prank has now turned into widespread criticism for 3-time LPGA winner Charley Hull. She made her caddie fall for a fake £100,000 scratch card, but fans believed she had gone a little too far.

Hull convinced longtime caddie Adam Woodward that he had won £100,000. He jumped in elation but was left blank when the truth was revealed later. The internet wasn’t having any of that.

"He's taken his hat off. He's taken his glasses off. He's literally running around the players lounge sayin', 'I've won $100,000. I'm taking today off,” said Hull. “His face looks so happy. He was sweating. He was trembling. He couldn't believe his luck, and we had to tell him it was fake, and he nearly quit the job." 

Fans on social media criticized Hull’s prank and felt it crossed a line. Viewers claimed the prank was hard to watch and the caddie’s bare emotions were played with.

“Not at all funny. The fact that she didn’t even have the self-awareness to lie and say she felt bad when she saw how excited he was reflects someone living in a bubble,” wrote an X user.

Another X user was left frustrated to the point that they urged caddies to boycott Hull.

“Nobody should ever caddy for her again. Let her carry her own bag,” they wrote.

Hull had acquired the fake scratch card from a joke shop in Blackpool a day before her AIG Women’s Open press conference. She then handed it to Woodward, who then scratched it away.

The veteran caddie's exhilarated reaction was stated by Hull in her AIG Women’s Open press conference. The entire incident was shared on Hull’s new Sweet Spot Golf channel.

Upon finding out the truth, Woodward was met with disappointment, and the reaction on X was brutal towards Hull.

However, the pair have been together since 2015 and share a deep bond.

"If he couldn't caddie anymore, I think I'd just be like, right, I'm retiring because I feel like no one else could caddie for me," Hull said back in April.

The prank also revealed Hull's candid view on prize money.

No. 7 in the official Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings, Charley Hull claimed that the lucrative payout at majors was a primary factor for her impressive performances.

"I'm not going to lie," Hull said in the same press conference. "That's why I think I play so well in the majors. Even if I'm quite a lot behind, I am like, make loads of birdies today, extra dollars, for me and him to get." 

Although Hull has never racked up a major title, she has come agonizingly close multiple times. The 30-year-old has finished runner-up five times at the major championships.

Outside of that, Hull has secured seven top-10 finishes, and she believes the massive purses are the reason.

As for the upcoming AIG Women’s Open, it has a record purse of $10 million. The winner will take home $1.5 million, and Hull surely has her sights set on it.
