Charley Hull’s Honest Take on Why She Doesn’t Want to Base Herself in Florida

Mar 28, 2026, 5:30 PM CUT

Most pro golfers flock to Florida, but Charley Hull isn't one of them. In 2024, the English star revealed on the 'Fore Play Podcast' why she prefers her home country.

Hull appeared on the Fore Play Podcast Plus for a friendly golf match, and Hull was asked if she had ever considered setting up base in Florida. Her answer was immediate and honest. “No, I’m English… I love England. I miss my friends too much,” she said.

For Hull, the decision was about her connection to home, friends, and family. That choice also shapes how she manages life on tour.

As she put it, “Two weeks on the trot, that’s the maximum that I do, then I go home.” She used to be quite at ease with doing longer stints back in the earlier parts of her career, but with time, things have changed.

“When I was younger… but now I’m 27, I like to take it a little bit more easily,” she added.

There is also a mental aspect to it. Life on tour requires constant mental focus. “I’m in it mentally, so it’s taxing,” Hull added, pointing to the unseen pressure players deal with week after week.

How Family Still Shapes the Choices Charley Hull Makes

Long before Charley Hull became a professional golfer, her story began at home with her father. Dave Hull was the one who brought her into the world of golf at the age of two, and that initial connection was the foundation of the whole journey that came after.

She has never shied away from acknowledging that influence. In a birthday tribute, Hull called him the “best dad in the world” and made it clear how much he still means to her.

This connection explains many of her recent decisions. As a matter of fact, several golfers relocate to Florida due to the convenience factor, but Hull, on the other hand, enjoys being near her home in England.

Her schedule reflects that as well. She often limits long stretches on tour, choosing to head back home instead of staying away for weeks.
