After leading the high school team to a state championship, Charlie Woods is competing in the 62nd Junior Orange Bowl International golf championships at the Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Florida.

Charlie Woods shot 73 (1 over) in the opening round on Saturday, placing him in a tie for 21st in a field of 48 male golfers and 36 female golfers. 

However, one moment in particular drew attention to Charlie.

During play on the 11th hole, Charlie Woods’ ball came to rest under a tree. When he attempted a recovery shot, the ball struck a root and bounced upward, coming close to hitting him. 

Woods dropped his club and covered his face as the ball passed close to him. Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren were in attendance.

Charlie Woods, unfazed by the incident, continued play, hit his next shot onto the green, and made a putt to save par.

According to Golfweek, Tiger Woods told Charlie, “Hell of a shot,” as they spoke between holes.

Despite the save, Charlie Woods made a bogey on the par-3 14th hole and then made par on the remaining holes to finish with a score of 73 during the first round.

A one-over start left Charlie Woods tied for 21st in the international field and 11 strokes behind leader Giovanni Daniele Binaghi. who shot 62 on Saturday.

Charlie Woods aimed to improve his position in the second round on Sunday. Starting on the 10th hole, Charlie made bogeys on his first and fifth holes and then made a double-bogey seven on the par-5 15th.

A bogey on the 17th hole, Charlie’s eighth of the round, moved him to five-over for the day and seven-over for the tournament. 

Charlie later made a birdie on his back birdie and finished with a score of 72 (one over), putting him at three-over for the tournament and tied for 24th place.
