Charlie Woods Takes on Caddie Duties as an Amateur Golfer Faces 36-Hole U.S. Open Challenge

Amateur golfer Miles Russell tees it up Monday chasing one of golf's rarest tickets at the U.S. Open final qualifier at BallenIsles Country Club. The world's top-ranked junior is hoping to secure a spot at Shinnecock Hills.
Russell will be joined by close friend Charlie Woods, who will serve as his caddie for the 36-hole qualifier. The son of Tiger Woods narrowly missed earning a place in final qualifying himself earlier this year.
The two highly ranked juniors share an agent and are both verbally committed to Florida State for 2027, adding another chapter to their growing friendship in the game.
Russell will tee it up at one of the 10 Final Qualifying tournaments on Golf’s Longest Day. He’ll compete against notable names like Matt Kuchar, Luke Clanton, and Matthieu Pavon, hoping to qualify for his first U.S. Open.
Moreover, Russell broke Tiger Woods’ record by becoming the youngest recipient of the AJGA Rolex Junior Player of the Year award at 15 years old. He has already won the award twice and became just the seventh player ever to do so.
The youngest player to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour will look to shine at the 36-hole qualifier, with Woods on the bag.
Charlie Woods himself came close to featuring in the U.S. Open final qualifier. At such a young age, he has built a reputation of his own.
A Look At Charlie Woods’ Amateur Career
Charlie Woods was just one stroke short of a playoff in April to secure his own spot at BallenIsles Country Club.
However, the 17-year-old has qualified for his third consecutive U.S. Junior Amateur at Saucon Valley Country Club next month.
Woods competed at the 2020 PNC Championship alongside his father at just 11 years of age and became the youngest competitor in the tournament's history.
His biggest win yet came last year at the Team TaylorMade Invitational, his first AJGA victory. Woods shot 15-under against higher-ranked opponents and registered the win.
Now, as a caddie for Russell, Woods will look to gain valuable experience at the U.S. Open final qualifier.
