Bryson DeChambeau's chocolate-milk-fueled preparation for the second round of the U.S. Open quickly turned sour after the two-time champion opened Friday with back-to-back double bogeys.
After carding an even-par round on Thursday and heading into Round 2 in good spirits, the LIV Golf star dropped four shots on the 3rd and 4th holes at Shinnecock Hills, tumbling down the leaderboard and putting his hopes of making the cut under pressure.
The rough start came just hours after DeChambeau jokingly revealed his secret preparation for the second round.
"Chocolate milk," he had said.

The two double bogeys took his score to 4-over par, causing him to fall significantly down the leaderboard.
“I'm feeling pretty good. Golf game's in a solid place, just more of the same. Being strategic and hitting that driver when I can, but really trying to be strategic out here, much like Pinehurst. Middle of the greens, give myself 20-footers, hopefully a couple will drop. Don't put myself in bad places.” DeChambeau said in the same interview.
The 32-year-old did put himself in bad places but responded with birdies on the 5th and 8th holes. However, he also carded a bogey on the 6th hole.
DeChambeau finished the front nine at 3-over par, and now the back nine will be the deciding factor. He will be looking to make the cut for the first time at a major this season.
DeChambeau’s missed cuts at the majors this season
The two-time major winner has missed the cut at both the Masters and PGA Championship this season.
“To be honest, missed cuts are gonna happen," DeChambeau told Flushing It when asked about his major form.
It was a disappointment at Augusta for DeChambeau this year. He was all set to play the weekend until a triple-bogey 7 on his final hole caused him to miss the cut line.
At Aronimink, he shot rounds of 76 and 71 to finish at 7-over, which was not enough to earn a spot for the weekend.
The 32-year-old is hoping to avoid a third straight missed cut at a major at Shinnecock Hills, which would be an infamous first for the People's Champ.
