Collin Morikawa has withdrawn from the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, skipping one of the PGA Tour’s marquee 72-player, no-cut signature events.
He came into the week ranked No. 6 in the world. After he pulled out, Andrew Putnam took his place in the tournament as the first alternate. No official reason was given, and none is needed before a tournament starts.
Collin Morikawa has been dealing with a back injury since March, when he had to leave the course after playing just one hole in the first round of The Players Championship.

A month later, he pulled out of the Valero Texas Open as well, buying himself an extra week before Augusta.
That planned break helped him. Morikawa finished tied for seventh at The Masters and then tied for fourth at the RBC Heritage the next week, even though he was not swinging at full speed.
"The two weeks of golf have felt like a full year of golf, just grinding through it, playing," Morikawa said after Harbour Town.
He has had five top-10 finishes in 2026 so far, all while not being fully healthy.
Collin Morikawa Has His Eyes on a Bigger Prize
The PGA Championship begins May 14 outside Philadelphia, and this withdrawal looks similar to the move at Texas Open.
Even with his injury, Morikawa has had a strong season.
He started 2026 by winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February, which was his seventh PGA Tour title. That win pushed him as high as No. 4 in the world, though he has since settled back to sixth.
His only disappointing result came at the Cadillac Championship near Miami, where he finished tied for 62nd. It was his worst four-round result of the season.
Morikawa’s season will now be measured by his performance at Aronimink Golf Club. He won the Wanamaker Trophy for the first time in 2020, winning in only his second major tournament. He also won The Open Championship in 2021 at Royal St George's Golf Club.
If he wins a second PGA Championship, it could become the biggest moment of a season in which he has played through pain.
