“Cool to Come Back Next Year”: Tyrrell Hatton Shares Heartfelt Motivation Behind Birdie Run at Masters

Apr 13, 2026, 10:30 PM CUT

World No. 23, Tyrrell Hatton, finished tied for 3rd in this week’s Masters.

Although he fell short of taking the lead, Hatton’s run of four birdies in the last six holes of the final round was commendable. After the tournament, he mentioned the motivation behind his birdie run.

“To be honest most the back nine I just wanted to make birdies because my wife is due in six weeks and I was thinking about it would be cool to come back next year and our little girl will be pretty much 11 months.”

Hatton finished at the score of 10-under par (278). Having a slow start, he picked up momentum as the rounds went on. He had an exceptional score of 66 (-6) in the second and final round.

Hatton and his wife, Emily Braisher are expecting in six weeks. This was all the motivation Hatton needed to put together the spectacular birdie run that unsettled the leaders. As a top-12 finisher, he guaranteed a spot for himself at next year’s Masters.

“It would be amazing to see her in a boiler suit. Obviously you see all the other dads and their families and the little ones in boiler suits is so cute.”

Hatton’s charge on the back nine led to the lowest round of the day among the leaders. In the process, he also secured his career-best finish in a major championship. Moreover, the hole-out eagle on the 7th earned him a traditional crystal award from Augusta National.

“Yeah, I wanted to experience that. Yeah, definitely a motivation for me to try and make some birdies and happy I managed to do that. Yeah, it was cool,” Hatton said.

Besides the birdie run, Hatton’s second round of 66 was a phenomenal achievement. He hit every green in regulation, joining the elite group of Jim Furyk (2009) and Kevin Na (2020), who had done the same.

Hatton was LIV Golf’s only bright spot at the Masters. Everyone else, representing LIV Golf, struggled significantly.

The Other LIV Golfers Struggled at The Masters Except Tyrrell Hatton

As Tyrrell Hatton prevailed at The Masters by finishing tied for 3rd, some notable names belonging to the LIV Golf roster did not stand a chance at Augusta.

Bryson, with back-to-back LIV tournament wins, was one of the favorites to win the Green Jacket this year. However, he missed the cut at 6-over par and ended his journey with a triple bogey.

Sergio Garcia never picked up momentum and was in the spotlight for the Code-of-Conduct warning and not for his game. His partner, 2023 Masters Champion, John Rahm, finished tied for 38th after his opening round of zero birdies.

The difference in standards of LIV Golf and the PGA Tour was clearly on display at Augusta National this week. LIV Golf’s lack of competitiveness is being questioned heavily.
