“Couldn’t Understand Any Of It”: Jon Rahm Hints at a Crowd Moment Worth Remembering

LIV Golf South Africa 2026 marked its first event on the African continent at The Club at Steyn City. And Jon Rahm facing a new problem!
Reflecting on that atmosphere during the Saturday press conference, two-time major winner Jon Rahm said:
“I would say I've heard a lot of funny people, but they're speaking Afrikaans, so I couldn't understand any of it. Nothing special, no, nothing great. That's what makes it so interesting and so beautiful, that they're cheering really hard for the South Africans and for good golf, but they've been extremely respectful of everybody, and that makes it an absolute joy to play in front of them.”
Attendance was expected to cross 90,000 over four days, according to a post from Africa Facts Zone on Facebook. To add to that, English makes up only 8% of the languages in the country, meaning Rahm may not have been able to understand a single detail! All of that energy came together when fans cheered for one specific player.
“To be honest, based on what I've witnessed today, Dean for president, honestly. His shoulders might be so sore from waving at the crowd and thumbs up and everything.”
Dean Burmester entered the final round of LIV Golf South Africa 2026 tied for fifth at 17-under par, four shots behind Bryson DeChambeau. Playing for Southern Guards GC, he recorded rounds of 67, 64, and 65 at The Club at Steyn City.
Burmester started with a 67, followed with a 64 in the second round, and then posted a bogey-free 65 in the third to stay in contention. His scores also kept Southern Guards GC at 60-under par heading into the final round.
Speaking about the moment, Burmester said playing in front of the home crowd was the pinnacle of his career and added that the reception on the first tee moved him to tears.
And The Southern Guards Played Just As Well In Front of The Home Crowd
At the team level, Southern Guards GC, led by Louis Oosthuizen, held the top position at 60-under par. They maintained a two-shot lead over Torque GC and Fireballs GC heading into the final stretch.
Bryson DeChambeau, representing Crushers GC, took the lead in the individual standings at 21-under par after completing a bogey-free third round. Close behind him, Branden Grace followed at 19-under, keeping the contest within reach.
In the end, it was DeChambeau who finished in the top spot while South African star Branden Grace followed close in second position. Jon Rahm finished T3 in the standings.
