The 37-year-old David Lipsky finished runner-up at the 2026 Valspar Championship. Yet, his loss to Matt Fitzpatrick on Sunday didn't upset the PGA Tour pro. In fact, it did the opposite.

During the Valspar Championship press conference on Sunday, David Lipsky spoke about the result and what it means for his season.

“Massive. It's going to probably gets me into a few of the Signature Events or whatnot. It's a great week. I have no notes on that,” the PGA Tour pro said during the press conference at Innisbrook Resort.

David Lipsky closed at 10-under par, while Fitzpatrick finished at 11-under after a birdie on the 18th at Innisbrook Resort Copperhead Course.

Lipsky entered the week with a conditional status, so the result changes his position on the Tour. With this finish, he moved to No. 33 in the FedEx Cup standings, which puts him in line for entry into upcoming Signature Events after the Masters.

At the same time, the result matches his best finish on the PGA Tour.

Looking at what the result means for the rest of his season, Lipsky explained why finishes like this early in the year matter.

“It gets you into so many more events. You don't feel like you're behind the 8-ball, especially going into the summer.”

David Lipsky looks beyond the Valspar Championship

“So this week was an awesome week, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what events I get into the rest of the year and trying to play my way into those playoffs,” David Lipsky added.

His position will further be decided through the Texas Children's Houston Open and the Valero Texas Open, which will finalize the Aon Swing 5 and Aon Next 10 standings.

These results will determine if he secures entry into upcoming Signature Events such as the RBC Heritage or the Wells Fargo Championship.

At the same time, his chances of playing in the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open will also depend on his world ranking and qualification in the coming weeks.
