The reigning champion, Ludvig Aberg, is definitely not staying still as he is getting ready for the Genesis Invitational at Riviera. His search for better putting stats has led him to switch up his equipment a bit by getting a new Odyssey Golf #1 blade with less loft to improve the roll.
In fact, he was also spotted testing a Scotty Cameron prototype mallet earlier in the week, an intriguing move for a player known for sticking with a blade.
“Yeah, I definitely felt like, you know, going off of last year… we all use stats in terms of knowing where you are and kind of using that as a tool to get better. I felt like I wanted to improve my putting stats quite significantly.” Aberg addressed the change directly in his pre-tournament press conference on February 18, 2026.
That motivation led to a technical adjustment. “I moved into a new putter with a different head with less loft on it to kind of get the ball rolling a little bit faster and it’s been nice, it’s been good,” he explained.
But he admitted the move has been a process of recalibration, as he put it, “At times it kind of comes off a little bit faster than I'm used to… especially inside 15 feet.”
Aberg remains one of just five players in the top 25 of the Official World Golf Ranking using a blade, which makes the mallet testing at Riviera worth watching. Hdefurther added, “You're always trying to figure out the swing… I’ve learned a lot over the last couple of months of what really works for me.”
This search for an edge extends to his entire equipment setup.
Ludvig Aberg’s Current Equipment Setup
Here’s a list of equipment that Ludvig Aberg has in his bag ahead of the 2026 season.
Driver & Woods
- Driver: Titleist TSR2 – Aberg relies on this at the top of his bag for distance and stability off the tee.
- Fairway Woods: TaylorMade Stealth 2 still features as his core fairway option, and he has been seen testing the newer TaylorMade Qi4D 3-wood — hinting at a possible lineup tweak.
- 7-Wood: TaylorMade Stealth 2 (21°) – gives him an added high-launch scoring option.
Irons & Utility
- Irons: A mix headlined by the latest Titleist T100 4-PW set for precision in approach play. Some setups include a Titleist T350 4-iron as well.
Wedges
- Wedges: Three Titleist Vokey wedges (typically in 50°, 54°, and 60° lofts).
Putter
- Putter: Odyssey White Hot Versa #1 — a blade-style putter that he trusts for feel and roll.
Golf Ball
- Ball: Titleist Pro V1x
And when asked whether he has fully settled on this putter long-term, Aberg made it clear, “Yeah, I have one I've been using now since just before Christmas, and it's the same head that I've sort of always used, just the blade soft insert. But yeah, we're always trying to improve.”
He further added while explaining, “There's nothing set in stone. There's nothing that this is the way it's going to be for the rest of my life. I don't know. But yeah, we're definitely trying to figure those things out.”
