From British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to legendary chef Julia Child, Meryl Streep has made memorable performances look easy. However, the Devil Wears Prada star can't make everything look effortless.

With Devil Wears Prada 2 on the horizon, here's a look back at what the three-time Oscar winner said about golf back in August 2016 while promoting her film Florence Foster Jenkins.

"I can't do a lot of things, like golf. I don't like golf. I mean, I really don't because I tend to like things that I can do right away," Meryl Streep said as per Vanity Fair.

"If I can't do it right away, I don't like it," she added. Streep even compared golf to skiing, a sport she actually enjoys.

"Skiing, I really like because you can sort of get up on skis, and if you are coordinated and completely without being reckless, you can lean forward and go," she explained.

Her Florence Foster Jenkins co-star, Hugh Grant, found it hard to believe that Streep could be bad at something. "I’d love to see you be bad at golf," he teased. While the actress couldn't show him, she did recall how bad she actually is.

When Don Gummer tried to teach Meryl Streep Golf

Streep didn't arrive at this conclusion without giving golf a fair shot. She revealed that she accompanied her husband (now separated), sculptor Don Gummer, to the golf course multiple times.

To say the outings didn't go well may be an understatement, as she struggled to get even the most fundamental thing in golf right.

"I never hit the ball ever," she said at the New York press conference, according to Vanity Fair. The actress recalled one particularly frustrating round where her husband attempted to coach her through the mechanics.

"I remember my husband saying, 'You're coming up on the ball. You're coming up.' And I said, 'I'm not coming up!' I'm like hunkered down, and I hit right on the top of it, and there was the ball always sitting there," she said.

"I took it and went home. I don't like it," she added. So are you just as surprised as Hugh Grant? Tell us in the comments.
