"You have a hole in one story?" Bryson DeChambeau asked President Donald Trump while playing with him in July 2024. However, what few saw coming was Trump casually mentioning an astonishing figure.

“No, but I’ve made eight.” President Trump said in the video on DeChambeau's YouTube channel. Even a pro golfer paused to confirm what he had just heard.

When DeChambeau asked about his favorite among them, Trump pointed to the most recent one. “The last one I made with Ernie Els. It was a 5-iron. It was 188 yards in Palm Beach. And I hit it sort of into a little window. I mean, I hit it perfectly. And Ernie was there," said the POTUS.

Trump also recalled the group around him that day, highlighting the level of competition. “We had some great players. Gene Showers. He was a senior tour player. He won the Senior U.S. Open a few years ago. Ken Duke. Dennis was there.”

The main reason for the story's success was how simple it was. Trump, who was surrounded by well-credentialed professionals, only took one punch, which he threw straight and then looked at it going down. “They were all except for me,” he said, before adding, “And I got a hole-in-one, and it was quite good.”

In golf, numbers matter, and eight hole-in-ones are rare by any standard. And Donald Trump has been quote good at golf.

Golf Is More Than a Hobby for Donald Trump

Donald Trump’s relationship with golf is anything but casual. Donald Trump has often spoken about the game as something he genuinely enjoys, not just to relax, but to compete. He plays frequently and likes to talk through shots, course setups, and strategy, which says a lot about how seriously he takes the sport.

Trump has repeatedly claimed to be a low-handicap golfer. Over the years, his handicap has been reported in the low single digits, with Trump himself once stating it was around 2.8. While that number has sparked debate, even critics agree on one thing: he plays a lot of golf and is comfortable on the course, especially on layouts he knows well.

His passion also shows in ownership. Through the Trump Organization, he owns multiple Trump National Golf Club properties across the United States, Scotland, and Ireland. Many of these courses are known for challenging designs and scenic coastal views.
