Even a Patriots Defender Couldn’t Escape Golf’s Humbling Side

New England Patriots cornerback and returner Marcus Jones was introduced to the game at four and has played ever since. Despite years of experience on the greens, Jones still had a humbling moment with the putter.
Korn Ferry Tour shared a video on X after Jones scored an exceptional touchdown during the Patriots vs. Texans playoff game. "After what we saw today, I think the football is working out just fine for Marcus Jones," he wrote. However, it was a video he shared alongside his statement that revealed the sarcasm behind the caption.
The old video of Marcus Jones caught him lining up a putt very close to the hole. However, when he finally hit it, the ball lipped out of the cup and rolled away.
However, the Patriot's CB continues to compete in golf as an amateur, including in pro-am events. He has competed in events like the BMW Pro-Am and the 2024 Club Car Championship in Savannah, Georgia.
He also regularly hits the greens with fellow former and active NFL players who also take an interest in golf. However, you may be asking the obvious question since Jones plays football full-time and plays golf.
How does the Patriots' CB stay connected to golf?
Jones plays amateur golf through Fore Athletes, a group that connects professional football players who play golf. The organization was co-founded in 2022 by NFL quarterback Joshua Dobbs and former collegiate golfer Allen Chaney.
The organization supports through “Practice & Play” sessions and even helps them earn opportunities to play. In fact, the Patriots star made his pro-am debut through Fore Athletes.
"I was like, 'I love what you guys are putting together and I definitely want to be a part of it.' We've just been grinding ever since trying to get athletes into the game of golf," he told WSAV3 about joining the organization in 2024.
"I was blessed to get introduced to the game of golf at four years old, so I kind of have a little more underneath my belt and I try to help the guys as much as I can," Marcus Jones added.
However, right now, his focus is on winning the AFC Championship.
