“Every Part of My Body Was Shaking”: Alex Fitzpatrick Opens Up on Nerve-Wracking Finish in India

The Indian Open ended with Alex Fitzpatrick coming out on top. It was his first title, and he won it with a dramatic comeback.

“Every part of my body was shaking,” Fitzpatrick said, describing the pressure and heat he faced while trying to close out the round.

Fitzpatrick came back from six shots behind to topple Spain’s Eugenio Chacarra at the top. His final score of 3-under 69 secured him the Hero Indian Open.

“It wasn’t like you were coming into the last couple of holes where it was, like, alright, you know I can just hit an iron down, hit it on the green and two-putt it,” he said.

He made a couple of early bogeys in the final round, which pushed him further behind Chacarra after starting the day four shots back. However, he responded with an incredible stretch of eight birdies in his final 13 holes to secure his first victory.

Fitzpatrick said it had been a long wait for the win and added that the stress began to hit him after the round.

Even a double bogey on the 18th hole could not stop him from securing his first DP World Tour win.

He said he still did not know how many birdies he made and was simply trying to stay in contention.

The Fitzpatrick Brothers and Glory

Fitzpatrick said it was special to join his brother Matt Fitzpatrick as a winner. He added that chasing his brother’s achievements can be challenging, but it also motivates him. He said he idolizes Matt and hopes to continue improving while both of them perform well.

World No. 5 Matt Fitzpatrick claimed the Valspar Championship in Florida last week. With Alex now winning in India, the brothers secured wins in consecutive weeks on different tours, a rare moment for the family.

While Matt Fitzpatrick has already established himself in the sport, the Indian Open marks Alex's beginning.
