Scottie Scheffler shot 65 in the third round at The Masters, but his blunt reply to a reporter grabbed more attention, with the “terrible question” comment driving the reaction online.

He started with a 70, then followed it with a 2-over 74 after hitting the water on the par-5 13th and 15th, which dropped him down the leaderboard going into the weekend.

However, the shift came on Saturday. Starting the third round well behind Rory McIlroy, Scheffler produced a 7-under 65 without dropping a shot, moving into a tie for seventh alongside Haotong Li.

During the round, the 29-year-old made an eagle on the 2nd and shot a 31 on the front nine, his lowest nine-hole score at Augusta, as he cut the gap to five strokes and moved back into contention.

At the same time, some fans felt the reaction reflected a pattern rather than a one-off moment. “Scottie has been prickly for about two years now.”
