“Far Exceeded Any Expectations”: Alex Fitzpatrick Opens Up After Dream PGA Tour Breakthrough

Alex Fitzpatrick arrived at the Cadillac Championship one week after winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with his brother, Matt Fitzpatrick. That result gave Alex his first PGA Tour title and moved him from sponsor exemption to full PGA Tour status.
It also secured his full PGA Tour card through the 2028 season after entering the week on a sponsor exemption. The American golfer recently spoke to the media, noting the feeling of a duo win with his brother.
“I mean, I don't know how it would have felt winning by myself. I'm sure that would have been an amazing feeling. But winning with my brother kind of far exceeded any expectations I ever had.” said Alex during media interaction at the Cadillac Championship on Saturday, shared via Flushing It on X.
"I can't quite describe the feeling I had tapping in and looking over at my brother on 18,” he added.
The win gave Alex 400 FedExCup points, moved him to No. 45 in the standings, and turned a limited schedule into full PGA Tour status through 2028.
This victory came just one month after his Hero Indian Open win.
“It's impossible to try to translate into words. But, yeah, I'm sure the rest of this year you'll see me with a smile on my face no matter what,” added Alex.
That stretch also put the Fitzpatricks into another first.
Matt won the RBC Heritage, then teamed with Alex to win in New Orleans, making them the first brothers to win on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in back-to-back starts.
Alex next made his way to the Cadillac Championship with a full PGA Tour membership through 2028, starting as an official member.
Alex Fitzpatrick entered the 2026 Cadillac Championship after his first PGA Tour win
Alex entered the Cadillac Championship one week after securing his first PGA Tour win and has stayed in the mix through three rounds at Trump National Doral.
He opened the week with an even-par 72, then moved up the board with a bogey-free 66 on Friday. In the third round, he carded a 74 and slipped back, but remains inside the top 20 heading into Sunday.
It is his first start since the win in New Orleans and his first as a fully exempt PGA Tour member. Through three rounds, he has kept the ball in play, hit a high number of greens, and given himself enough chances to stay in position entering the final day.
