Former LIV golfer makes major stride toward PGA Tour after third DP World Tour title

Spain’s Eugenio Chacarra has always expressed his wish to compete on the PGA Tour. With three DP World Tour wins, including back-to-back victories, he is within touching distance of his goal.
Chacarra secured the Italian Open over the weekend, making it his third DP World Tour win. The Spaniard secured $500,000 for the victory, but he also landed further significant opportunities.
“Yeah, winning is always great, but that’s what we work for,” Chacarra said. “I’ve been doing incredible work these last couple of years and I’m very proud of myself.”

Chacarra moved to third in the Race to Dubai standings with 2,107.79 points, trailing only Patrick Reed (2,690.52) and Rory McIlroy (2,269.86), as reported by John Turnbull of Bunkered.
Since McIlroy already has PGA Tour status, the Spaniard effectively sits second in the race for one of the 10 PGA Tour cards available through the DP World Tour standings for 2027.
Chacarra once openly admitted that LIV Golf was all about money.
“I see what it’s like to win on the PGA Tour and how your life changes,” said Chacarra in an interview with Flushing It Golf. “How you get major access and ranking points. On LIV, nothing changes, there is only money. It doesn’t matter if you finish 30th or first, only money.”
The 26-year-old recorded one victory on the circuit at LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok. While the move brought financial security, Chacarra was still chasing success at the highest levels of the sport.
After breaking away from LIV at the end of the 2024 season, Chacarra has enjoyed a rapid rise on the DP World Tour, winning the Hero Indian Open, the KLM Open, and now the Italian Open.
Now, he’s well on his way to the PGA Tour, and with the victory, he also secured his place in next month’s Open Championship.
Chacarra seals his spot in the Open Championship
The 26-year-old secured the one Open Championship ticket available to the top eligible player not already exempt at the Italian Open.
“Yeah, so excited. I’ve never played [The Open]. I’ve dreamed of playing it, always. I’ve watched Seve [Ballesteros] win Opens. I’ve watched it on TV since I was little. Excited to be out there. It’s now time to celebrate and then we focus on that,” said Chacarra in the same report.
The Spaniard featured at the 2024 U.S. Open and the 2025 PGA Championship but failed to make the cut at both events.
With his rich run of form, Chacarra will look forward to putting up a strong display at Royal Birkdale next month.
