There has been enough debate regarding the DP World Tour-PGA Tour alliance. Recently, a prominent voice broke ranks on a contentious golf alliance.

Four-time European Tour winner Paul McGinley came out in support. The strategic alliance started in 2020 when the Wentworth-based circuit agreed to a deal with the PGA Tour. Two years later, the ties were strengthened.

“I think that’s proved to be the right decision over time, and it’ll only get better going forward. I think we’ve got some good stuff coming with the PGA Tour in the coming year. So, Europe’s in a great spot,” said McGinley in a media call, according to Bunkered.

As proposed by PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp, the American circuit is set to transform into a new track system.

The new "first track" schedule would feature 16 elevated regular-season events, three playoff events, and four major tournaments, for a total of 23 events for the year.

This proposed change shall work in favor of DPWT, according to McGinley. He also mentioned how well the circuit has handled the impact of LIV.

“I’m very proud of where it is, and how they’ve come through the last two or three years, with the addition of LIV onto the golfing scene, and the ferocious money that they were able to throw at world golf, which was pretty much our market before. So, we’ve done really well,” McGinley said.

Officials of DPWT had contacted representatives of Golf Saudi and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund to seek investment for the tour. However, they did not go ahead with the deal.

Since the alliance, many have claimed the DPWT to have become a feeder tour for the PGA Tour.

On the other hand, some notable names have questioned the European Tour’s decision to join hands with the PGA Tour.

Arguments Against The DP World Tour-PGA Tour Alliance

The 10 cards initiative has been heavily criticized. As a result of this, the leading players of the DP World Tour have left for the PGA Tour.

"The concern, and this is going to be dependent to the changes that come on the PGA Tour, is that the DP World Tour isn’t just the Championship, it's actually League 1," said Eddie Pepperell on the Chipping Forecast.

The new track system of the PGA Tour was inspired by the structure of the English Premier League.

The PGA Tour’s plan to transform into a two-tier system will further subjugate DPWT’s position as the European Tour stars will end up featuring at the Tier 2 events.

The leading players of the DPWT, who move to the PGA Tour, bring about extensive reach for the European Tour when they return to its events.

However, if the track system is implemented, the visibility of those players will take a hit along with the DP World Tour.
