Wyndham Clark did not have a single top-10 finish this season, but he produced one of the biggest surprises on the PGA Tour this year by securing the CJ Cup Byron Nelson title with a historic final-round 60.

Clark finished at 30-under par after the final-round 60, beating professional golfer Si Woo Kim by three shots and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by five for his first win in two years.

After the round, Clark said one change helped him improve his game. "Finally, I landed on a great putter, and then everything's been kind of coming together," Clark said.

The putter in question is a Ping Scottsdale Tec Ally Blue Onset mallet, which he put in the bag at the Masters. In three starts since making the switch, Clark gained strokes on the greens every time.

Clark shot 28 on the back nine, highlighted by a 15-foot eagle putt on the 12th and a 45-foot birdie putt on the 15th. He also birdied four of his last five holes to close out the win.

Before this week, Clark had fallen from World No. 3 to No. 75, missed the cut at the PGA Championship, and was not being discussed as a Ryder Cup candidate.

Clark finished one shot shy of the PGA Tour 72-hole scoring record tied by Scheffler at the same venue and became the first player to win two PGA Tour events with a final-round 60.

The win puts Wyndham Clark back in the Ryder Cup conversation ahead of Medinah, Chicago this fall, though his final round also drew controversy.

Clark’s final-round 60 also included a long delay. On the par-five ninth hole, his tee shot picked up mud in the fairway.

He asked for a free drop because he believed there was casual water, but two rules officials said no. The discussion lasted nearly 10 minutes, forcing Tom Kim and Scottie Scheffler to wait on the tee behind him.

However, fans on social media were not happy about the delay.

Kim, who shot a final-round 65, stayed calm about the situation. That score would have been enough to win in many tournaments.

“I’m a little frustrated, but there’s nothing I can do,” Kim said. “Wyndham played really well. Congrats to Wyndham. It’s very hard to shoot a score like that on Sunday.”

The victory likely sparks further debate over Clark's on-course conduct.
