Professional golfer Leonie Harm secured the Amundi German Masters title on Sunday. The victory came 13 years after a car accident left her with a 1% chance of survival and marked a major career breakthrough.
She won by a single shot on home soil. The event took place at Green Eagle in Hamburg, which became the venue for her first win on the Ladies European Tour.
"I'm really happy I got it over the line this time after coming close in 2022 and just out here with all the German fans," said Harm.
"So many people came out to support and that just means a lot.” she added.
The victory carried extra significance considering the challenges she overcame earlier in life.
The accident had left her with multiple injuries. She underwent extensive medical treatment. Returning to competitive golf seemed unlikely at the time.
However, Harm survived the injuries and went on to become one of the best amateurs in the world. Now, she has a professional title to her name.
“Resilience is a good thing, and I have shown this at times, but I believe right now I’m in a good spot mentally and for it to then be paired with success in golf is such a great feeling because I didn’t have to be miserable.” Harm said.
She began the tournament with a course-record eight-under-par 65 on day one before carding rounds of 75 and 73. However, a strong finish in the final round, including birdies on the last two holes, helped her secure the title with a 69.
Her "fairy tale is complete," and the victory marks a career breakthrough fueled by years of resilience.
It hasn’t been long since the inception of the Amundi German Masters.
Amundi German Masters And Its Winners
The Amundi German Masters was established in 2022. It shifted from Golf & Country Club Seddiner See to Green Eagle Golf Courses in 2025.
Sweden’s Maja Stark won the event’s premier edition by one stroke. Harm, along with Jessica Karlsson, tied for second.
Czech pro golfer Kristýna Napoleaová secured the title in 2023, followed by Germany’s Alexandra Försterling in 2024. Both won in playoffs.
Last year, 22-year-old Shannon Tan lifted the title after scoring 9-under par as she led by one stroke over Germany’s Helen Briem.
Harm’s victory will certainly be remembered, as the golfer overcame a life-threatening accident and cemented her legacy in the sport.
