From Slow Play to Etiquette Fails, Golf Fans Sound Off on the Habits That Ruin a Round

Every golfer has that one habit that can ruin a round. These are small things that affect the experience when they add up. A post on X from March 30 gave frustrated fans a platform to sound off.
To start with pace of play, delays can hold up the game. Taking too long between shots, not playing when ready, repeating practice swings, or spending extra time looking for a lost ball without letting others pass can interrupt the flow.
Then comes etiquette in the course. Walking in a putting line, not repairing marks or divots, leaving bunkers uneven, giving advice without being asked, or making noise during a swing can affect other players.
At the same time, awareness matters. Not calling out a warning when a ball is heading toward someone or standing in a player’s line of sight during a swing can create risk.
So when NUCLR Golf put up a post on X captioning it “what’s your biggest pet peeve on the golf course,” fans did not hold back.
What Frustrates Golf Fans Most on the Course?
Some pointed to delays affecting everyone on the course, saying, “Slow play, and if someone stands on the tee box!” Meanwhile, others pointed to their own flaws.
“My inability to play this god-forsaken game with any level of consistency,” commented one golfer. Others highlighted distractions. “Bluetooth speakers blasting music from the carts. Constantly,” wrote a user.
However, loud noises have always been a concern, even in professional golf, especially during a player’s swing. Fans got to see how bad it can get when Hideki Matsuyama stopped mid-swing at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
In fact, that botched swing potentially cost Matsuyama the top spot, and later reviews found that a loud metallic noise had interrupted the golfer.
Cart usage and lack of preparation also stood out to some. “Cart players who park their cart 40 feet away from the ball and then walk over to look sans a club. Also, when restricted to cart paths only, walking out to their ball without clubs,” one fan commented.
Time spent on greens became another point of frustration, “Watching the group ahead, lining up putts for 5 minutes on every green like they are on 18 @ Augusta.”
Yet, which golf habit frustrates you the most: slow play, poor etiquette, or something else? Let us know.
