Georgia Hall returned to competitive golf just three months after the birth of her son, Connor. Now, the LPGA Tour star has opened up about the physical toll of that decision.
In a recent interview with Sky Sports Golf, the 30-year-old admitted she underestimated how long it would take her body to recover after childbirth.
“It’s taken quite a bit of a toll on the body. Definitely underestimated how long it takes for your body to recover. But I’m getting slowly there and obviously excited to play,” said Hall in a video shared by Sky Sports Golf on X.
The reason for Hall’s quick comeback was her willingness to feature at the AIG Women’s British Open, held July 30 to Aug. 2 at Royal Lytham & St. Annes.
Hall returned at the Jabra Ladies Open in May and has played a handful of events since. The 2018 Women's British Open winner believes athlete-mothers deserve greater recognition.
“Yeah, it’s definitely underestimated for sure. And I don’t think it gets enough recognition. Yeah, it’s really over a year, really, because for nine months you’re pregnant, and then it takes, they say, nine months for your body to fully get back,” Hall said on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast.
She was a consistent performer before stepping away from golf last August due to maternity leave. However, now, she’ll certainly need time to recover and return to her best.
Motherhood brings a lot of responsibility, especially for professional athletes, and fellow LPGA Tour mom Alison Lee echoed similar sentiments.
Alison Lee on balancing career and motherhood
At the U.S. Women’s Open, Lee explained that her priorities had changed after becoming a mother. In fact, she wanted to make the most of her opportunity at the competitive level alongside her personal goals.
“…just try really hard for this next probably year to maybe two years to just play the best golf I can because realistically I feel like I’ve thought about my future a lot, and moving forward I do want more kids. I want a bigger family.” Lee said, in an interview accessed by ASAP Sports.
Lee was in a good run of form and even featured at the Solheim Cup before taking maternity leave. Now, after the break, she’s back to her best.
This season, the 31-year-old finished tied for fifth at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship and tied for third at the Dow Championship. Before that, she had secured a T3 finish at the Mizuho Americas Open.
In a new chapter of her life, Lee seems to have newfound confidence and is approaching her first win on the LPGA Tour.
